2010 Kelsey Kindred Annual Reunion
The 2010 reunion was held in New Hampshire on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. The hosts of this year’s reunion were Sue, Jon and Jared Hall and Wallace Kelsey. On Friday Night the members present held their annual business meeting at the Mount Major Community Center. We discussed the results of the updating of the web site and the future plans for genealogical accessibility. We also discussed the next year’s potential reunion locations. Our hope is that by holding the reunion in August we will get families with children out of school to attend. On Saturday morning we met for a cruise on the motor vessel Mount Washington. The two hour tour took us around the lake giving us the opportunity to learn a little history of the area as well as enjoy some beautiful views. After our cruise some of the group chose to visit the Wright museum in Wolfeboro. This World War II period museum shows what the home front was like during the war. The remainder of the attendees traveled north for a special opportunity to see the A – Z car collection of John Moir in Chocorua. The Letter K car was of course the Kelsey Motorette built in Hartford, CT by Cadwallader Kelsey in the early 1900’s. The collection was absolutely incredible. It contained some more common manufacturers like Cadillac, Nash Studebaker and Rolls Royce and some uncommn ones like the Zoe Zipper, Xanthos and Spacke Cyclecar. Thank you Scott Scharf for arranging this wonderful tour and to Mr. Moir for allowing us to tour his private collection. Our group photos were taken at the Sand Point Beach Resort (our home base for the reuninon) with dinner following at the Sandy Point Restaurant. The food was delicious and the company excellent. Jay Hall announced that he would be leading a morning hike to the top of Mount Major a nearby bald topped mountain overlooking the lake for those interested in some exercise and a gorgeous view.. Sunday morning Jay and 9 others climbed Mount Major. The hike is fairly steep one about 1 ½ miles long with views from about half way up to the top. Once on top you can see for miles. The lake is just below with the White Mountains in the distance. All of the hikers had to admit the views were worth the hard work. The barbecue/picnic was held at the vacation home of Wallace Kelsey our President Ameritus. Located on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee swimming, and boating were available for all to enjoy. The weather was a little cool and misty but that didn’t stop the younger gang from playing in the water. After a barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage patties, potato salad, coleslaw, fruit salad and watermelon we knew it was time to say so long for another year. Before we left we read the two new entries in the Kelsey Kindred Remembrance Book. The two entries were Wallace Kelsey and Chester Caulfield Kelsey. Once again we had a great time and got to explore a new location. See you all next year! 2010 REUNION ATTENDEES in New Hampshire ...
