2014 Kelsey Kindred
Annual Reunion
The 2014 reunion was held September 5 – 7th in the Philadelphia/ Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania. Our meet and greet time was held at Arnold’s Family Fun Center. A scheduling improvement made it necessary to move our business meeting to Saturday night. We had a nice meal and some family bowling time!
Saturday morning started sunny and promised to be warm. Our bus trip to Philly was on a school bus with-out air conditioning, yikes! For most of the ride stops it was O.K. We toured the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Benjamin Franklin Museum before lunch. Our delicious sandwiches from John’s Roast Pork restaurant were enjoyed in the shady area of a park adjacent to the Liberty Bell Museum. After lunch we moved on to the Betsy Ross house, and the Fire-man’s museum. All stops were educational and air conditioned! Tired and ready to return to the hotel we had to made one last stop! The Rocky steps at the Phil-adelphia Museum of Art. Posing for a picture was fun and some of the crew took the opportunity to make the run to the top in Rocky Balboa fashion! Back on the bus we went and headed back to the hotel.
After a brief rest, we met in the hotel lobby for a buffet dinner. The food was plentiful and delicious. Our annual meeting was held after the meal. Topics covered included the progress with the genealogical records being added to the web site, as well as when they will be accessible, reunion plans for next year, and a call for help in proving lineage for an attending family. Following the meeting we had a "make your own ice cream sundae" party. Those who were inter-ested in the area night life took a trip to a near by casi-no while the others relaxed in the hotel.
Noon on Sunday was the meeting time for our pic-nic in Valley Forge National Park. Richard Kelsey of Arkansas presided over a short non denominational service at the picnic area. The lunch included; cold cut sandwiches, chips and drinks along with home made desserts. After eating some folks said goodbye while others toured the park enjoying the beautiful day. The weekend was a huge success. We met old friends and family, made some new friends and hopefully we will be welcoming more new de-scendent members soon!
